“Shoe Dog” by Phil Knight — A Book Review
You may not know his name, but you are probably wearing one of his sneakers today. Phil Knight, the man behind the larger than life company -Nike — wrote “Shoe Dog” to tell his story and it blew me away. I went into this expecting great things because it was recommended to me by a friend and it’s fucking Nike, the company is worth $110 Billion, but I was unaware of the man and how grandiose the story would be.
This is random aside, but in the process of reading this book I learned that Puma and Adidas were originally founded by German brothers who had a falling out. Spite really can build empires — its insane.
But who is Phil Knight? An Oregon born American, son of a lawyer and a stay at home mom, a man who loved sports that was cut from baseball team so he focused on running. At first glance, Mr. Knight is not very impressive, he almost feels like your average American at the beginning. But as the story progresses you realize that the idea he has is nothing but average.
